Concert to Launch Singers Reunion in Brady

A Saturday concert at Brady High School will launch the Heart O' Texas Singers Reunion with groups from Fort Worth Austin Fredericksburg Arlington and San Angelo plus local performers George Jones and the Melody Girls. Tickets are 50 cents and the all day reunion follows Sunday with a barbecue dinner for a nominal charge drawing attendees from across Texas.

Claude Callan Dies Former Menard Editor at 74

Funeral services were held for Claude Callan 74 a newspaperman for 60 years at St. Patrick's Church. He died in a San Antonio hospital after a heart attack. Burial was at Brady Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Jessie and son Dr. John R. Callan of San Antonio.

Brady Police Chief Indicted in Civil Rights Case

Brady Police Chief Golden Jones was indicted by a federal grand jury in San Antonio for violating the civil rights of a prisoner by allegedly slapping him with his hand and a blackjack. The prisoner, Booker T. Young, 27, was being held in McCulloch County jail for a $220 theft in Brady. Jones says he slapped Young after an attempted confrontation during transport.
