Woman Named District Nominee for Baptist Mother of the Year

Mrs Mildred Williamson of Rochelle a 70 year old former schoolteacher and mother of two has been chosen as the district nominee for Tex Baptist Mother of the Year She is a longtime Christian active in the Womens Missionary Union and training union and writes the Facts and Fancies column for The Brady Standard She and 16 other district contestants will compete for the state title to be announced May 6.

McCulloch County Farm Bureau starts its annual membership drive Monday at 8 30 a m with C H DeVaney Texas Farm Bureau vice president as speaker. Community chairmen including Harry Hanson and E T Williams organize volunteers to reach a 467 member quota.

Rabbit drives push to curb Lohn and Voca rabbits

An all day rabbit drive is planned in Lohn and Waldrip areas with a 8:30 a m meeting at the Lohn tabernacle followed by a barbecue at noon at the Waldrip center. A second drive will be held in Voca at 2 p m with refreshments afterward. Community leaders thank participants for help in reducing the rabbit population at Melvin Rochelle and nearby areas.

Three Hundred Gray Francolins Released In Texas

Three hundred Gray Francolins from New Delhi were released at Ford Ranch last weekend as part of the Texas Game and Fish Commission effort to boost game bird populations. McCulloch County was chosen for its similar climate. one bird died during a three week quarantine in New York.

Mr and Mrs Clarence Deeds of Rochelle are credited as the parents of a newborn daughter born Thursday morning at M S Hospital.

Bob Davee Takes Leave of Absence

Robert Davee a law partner with his father in Davee and Davee is on leave in Houston assisting Eastham Dale For ney in marine law. He holds a Naval Science degree and is a UT Law 1958 graduate and a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve. He will aid in trials until his return home.

Nazarene Church Plans Revival Campaign

The Church of the Nazarene at TOS North College will start an evangelistic campaign Sunday morning April 26 with The Rev. Billy J. Jordan of Coleman as speaker. Services run every evening at 7 45 o clock through the week ending Sunday in May. Mr Jordan leads the Coleman Nazarene Church and has conducted several revivals. The public is invited to attend.

Boy Ranchers to Tour Austin for Educational Trip

About 90 McCulloch County men and boys will travel to Austin next Wednesday and Thursday on the Commercial Feeding Program trip. Eighteen adults accompany 71 eligible boys in private cars. funding came from a recent livestock auction. They will visit the House, Senate, Governor Daniel, Memorial Museum, Zilker Park, Public Safety HQ, Whitney Game Farm, Barton Springs, ice show, Bergstrom AFB, Lower Colorado River Authority plant, state fish hatchery, an air carnival, and return to Brady.

Brady Students Headed to Brenham for Regional Meets

Fifteen Brady High track boys leave at noon Friday for Brenham to run in the Region AA meet on Saturday and return after finals that night. Three students join regional literary events Friday Gary Schill Jerrilyn Lohn and Tom Low. Brady golf team and a girls doubles pair also compete in Brenham regional contests on Wednesday and Thursday.

McCulloch 4 H Girls Win District Meet

Fourteen McCulloch County 4 H girls competed in the District Awards Contest in San Angelo. Senior winners Patsy Engdahl and Ann Virdell head to College Station in June for State 4 H Roundup after top finishes in farm and home safety and entomology. Junior winners Cheryl Knight and Maggie Creech took poultry utilization and marketing first, while Cynthia Edwards and Cheryl Smith placed third in electric. Demonstrations in dairy foods and vegetable preparation were also presented. About 15 adult leaders and parents accompanied the girls. praise went to these supporters for enabling participation and learning.

Brady 4-H Boys Win District Contest

Brady 4-H Club boys won the district contest in San Angelo with the junior range judging team finishing first. Team members included Buddy Corder Dugan Falkham Clyde Locklear and Eddie Burk with County Agent Jimmy Casenbary overseeing ten other 4-H competitors. Individual placings featured Lanter Sohn of Brady second in junior public speaking and a senior soil evaluation team placing third. Soil team members were Kirby Huffman Billy Mohr Rochelle and Larry Henderson of Voca. Grass team members included Tommy Kidd George Kidd and Bill Price of Rochelle. Junior livestock team members Rod Bratton Mike Moseley and Tommy Penn placed seventh.
