Four hundred schoolboys arrive for Brady's 15th annual Relays with aims to break long standing records. Brownwood, Abilene, and San Angelo lead a field of 36 schools as preliminaries start at 10 p.m. finals schedule to follow.
Twelve to fourteen college coaches will attend a banquet in Brady High cafeteria Friday at 7 40 p m to meet OV Houn Dawgs football players and senior athletes. Movies from the Cotton Bowl will be shown and tickets cost 1 50 for non members.
Readable meet records show Brady and regional schools setting marks in high hurdles and multiple relays. Notable performances include 290 yard low hurdles, 440 yard dash, mile run, and 320 yard shuttle hurdles with squads from Brady Junction Lubbock Amarillo Brownwood Midland and Highland Park among others.
The Cavalliers of Fort Worth and the Capital City quartet of Austin will return for the Heart Of Texas Singers Reunion with other quartets. Concert Saturday night April 21 and all day reunion Sunday April 22 at Brady High School auditorium. Last year drew 1,200 attendees.
Eden will host district 11 B inter scholastic contests on Friday and Saturday. Students from Melvin Sohn and Rochelle compete in district 21 B literary events Friday. The district track meet Saturday begins preliminaries at 9 a m with finals in the afternoon. Other district schools include Richland Springs Eden Paint Rock Eola and Millersview which may not compete in track. Richland Springs may be the team to beat though no clear favorite. Melvin Superintendent K O Ellington chairs the spring meet.
Mr and Mrs Frank Farris of Brady welcome a son born at Brady Hospital on Thursday.
Six Brady Masons received fifty year service pins at a Brady Masonic Lodge ceremony. Paul Turney, deputy grand master of the Texas Grand Lodge, presided. Recipients include G. R. White, S. J. Striegler, Fred L. Leavenworth, R. L. Burns, A. J. Ricks, Sr., and A. J. Herrington, with degrees and lodge affiliations noted.
STs Ed Davenport Brady truck line operator is in Brady Hospital with a broken left leg after an accident at Ricks Chevrolet Co. late Tuesday morning. Davenport had taken a new tractor to the garage when A J Ricks Jr started the motor pinning him against a work bench. A mechanic under the truck was unhurt. Doctors planned surgery to set the leg Friday.
Wayne Jones, 31, Brady man injured in a February 22 automobile wreck on Old Mason Road was moved Thursday morning to McCloskey General Hospital in Temple. Friend Amos Kidd, 24, also injured, was taken to Temple hospital weeks earlier after the same incident.
Brady High School will present the three act comedy My Little Oscar this Friday night at 8 in the high school auditorium. Cast includes Corky Cobern as the father Betty Wallin Janet Ogden Butch Ogden Donnie Davis Gloria Watson Gay Townsend Sylvia Bell Bill Hampton Pat Hallmark Martha Bean Julia Faye Cobern and more. Proceeds fund the seniors annual trip with tickets 75 cents at the door.
Certificates awarded for purchasing Motorola TV sets at the All-Star Center grand opening must be used this week. F R Randolph says Saturday is the final day these certificates are honored and if the store lacks a desired set it will order it so the certificate retains value.
Margaret Ant Boehmer, aunt of Bradyite and pioneer resident of Eagle Pass, died Sunday at her brother Asa B. M Ray's home in Floresville after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Monday at Floresville. Mrs Boehmer, who moved to Floresville in 1954, was widow of J J Boehmer ex publisher of Eagle Pass Daily Guide and former state representative from that district.
Eleven schools send golfers to a Brady tournament at the Country Club course Saturday. Brady band directors Boyd Hunt and Joe McDonough oversee play. Nine holes start at 9 am and the final nine at 1 30 pm with 57 boys entered from Hamlin Ballinger Mineral Wells Lampasas Monahans San Angelo Coleman Lake View Del Rio Brownwood B team and Brady.
Motorists with license numbers CX-1524 CX-3578 and CX-3785 must report to the county tax office to replace receipts lost in the recent vehicle registration period.
