Rochelle Board Accepts Hornet Coach Jerrell Rice Resignation

The Van Rochelle School Board accepted the resignation of Hornet coach Jerrell Rice, who said he must move to a district able to offer higher pay. He has not secured another job. Superintendent C W Thompson said no successor has been named. Oliver also resigned from second grade teaching to be with family in San Saba. resignations effective year end.

Tickets Sold For C-C Banquet At Chamber Event

More than 200 of 250 banquet seats are sold for the upcoming Chamber of Commerce dinner at First Christian Church. Dr. B A Hallam notes tickets remain at local drug stores or the chamber office. Delbert Downing of Midland will be the main speaker with ACC male quartet entertainment directed by Douglas Jy.

Fire Truck Sold for 635 Bid by Houstonian Wright

A $635 bid from Houstonian W. M. Wright was accepted by the City Council and the Commissioners Court for the county fire truck jointly held by the City and County. In other action the council accepted the resignation of city policeman John Gray.

Free Whooping Cough Immunization Clinic Planned

The Brady Lions Club and State Health Department sponsor a free immunization clinic for children and infants next Thursday April 16 at the South Ward School auditorium. Nurses from local leagues join doctors. repeat sessions are planned for May June and possibly July. The effort addresses rising whooping cough and polio vaccination needs for under 20 year olds who cannot pay.

Rain Adds Up In Recent Storm Totals

The report notes continued rain with .45 inch recorded at 2:15 p m at Commercial National Bank on Thursday afternoon. Earlier showers gave .16 inch Tuesday night and .05 inch Wednesday night. Melvin logged .6 inch Tuesday night and more was falling Thursday afternoon.

Brady Returns 3 Incumbents To City Council

Three incumbents were re elected in Brady, Texas city elections. R M Priesmeyer The Texas Company Aubrey L Townsend Townsend's Ben Franklin Store and Louis Bierman Windrow Company won seats with 235 312 and 277 votes respectively. E W Sheffield Sheffield Townsend polled 209 and Herbert Harkrider H C Oil Company 137. A total of 434 voters participated.

Melvin FFA Team Finishes 11th at Area VII Show

The Melvin FFA Livestock team placed 11th at the Area VII contest held in Stephenville on April 4. Members Lanny Smith Roy Lynn Ferris and Edward Sandoval contributed, with Lanny finishing 10th high individual among 147. The team was two points from state qualification at Texas A&M College on May 2.

Townsend Withdraws McCulloch County LCRA Bill

Rep. Terry Townsend explains he withdrew McCulloch County from House Bill 705 after Brady City Council redirected support. He notes LCRA would not seek or oppose the bill and could consider future county additions, but not six or eight, stressing timing and council letters.

PTA Conference Set for Brady Brady District PTA to host 400 members next Wednesday

Brady gears up to welcome about 400 members for the Seventh District Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers annual conference. Events begin Tuesday with registration at Brady High School and a 7 pm dinner at Fellowship Hall First Christian Church. Wednesday features sessions at Brady High School, a 9 am start, and panels including state board members. Rabbit Drives Seek Volunteers at Rochelle and Voca

Volunteer hunters are needed Saturday for the Rochelle drive and Sunday for Voca. Andy Allen, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce agriculture committee, said the drives will proceed if the weather cooperates. Rochelle begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with a hunters meeting at East Sweden schoolhouse. Voca starts at 2 p.m. Sunday at Voca schoolhouse.
