Jim Mitchell Dies After Heart Attack in Pharmacy District
Jim Mitchell 71, father of Kenneth Mitchell of Rochelle, died minutes after a heart attack and crash on West Commerce Street. He was taken to Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital by Brady Funeral Home ambulance and pronounced dead. Maria Torrez of Sunshine Laundry treated for debris injuries. Also listed: M. E. Kidd 68 of Brady died after long illness at the same hospital. Funeral services held. burial in Bethel Cemetery. A Voca Community meeting is set for 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Voca schoolhouse.

Spring Race Meet Opens in Brady This Weekend
Racing season kicks off in Brady with the July Jubilee Association Spring Meet at G Rollie White Downs. Two weekends feature Quarterhorse Futurity Derby and Thoroughbred Futurity, with trials on Saturday and Sunday and finals the following weekend. Over 100 horses expected across three big trials, 10 races daily, purse notes and a new half mile start.
