Spring Race Meet Showcases 200 Top Horses At G. Rollie White Downs
More than 200 of the state’s best horses are entered for a four day Spring Race Meet at G Rollie White Downs. Curtis Benson and Robert Strickland discuss four major races the Quarter Horse Futurity Derby Thoroughbred Futurity and a Special Championship. Purses total around 28 900 for the Futurity and about 9 000 for the Derby plus 4 000 for the Thoroughbred Futurity. Trials begin with finals on April 19 and 20.

Funeral Rites Wednesday For Jim Mitchell
Jim Mitchell 71 of Rochelle died Tuesday at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital from an apparent heart attack. Funeral services are 4 p m Wednesday at Brady Funeral Home Chapel led by Rev Lamar Leifeste. Burial Rochelle Cemetery. Born February 22 1904 in Leonard he lived in Rochelle most of his life. He was a car salesman. Survivors include a son Kenneth Mitchell of Rochelle a daughter Mrs Jerrell Rice of Poteet a brother Odis Mitchell of Brady a sister Mrs George Bryant of Pecos six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Curtis E. Norman, longtime Ford dealer from Brady, received the TADA Meritorious Service Award at the 58th Texas Automobile Dealers Association convention in Houston. The event drew about 1,000 dealers and industry leaders. Norman has served on the TADA board, helped boost Texas auto trade, and remains active in banking and civic groups.

Brady Lass Golf Team Wins District Championship
Brady High School girls golf wins the district title with 462 to Llano 608 at Brady Municipal Golf Course.
