Ashley Won’t Run for Senate in 16th District
Ashley Carlos of Llano announced he will not seek re-election to the State Senate in the 16th District which includes McCulloch County. Harold G. Kennedy of Marble Falls and Sylvester Lewis of Lampasas have filed for the seat. In letters to friends he said he will devote more time to family business writing about the Hill Country and cherished friendships. Meanwhile Mr and Mrs James Samuelson and daughter Rue Ann of Lubbock are visiting relatives for Easter.

Brady's sewer finds treasure in line cleaning
South western Pipeline Cleaners of Lubbock were cleaning Brady's sewer lines when workers uncovered a block packed with teeth shells razor blades bottles marbles pencils cosmetics items and millions of safety pins. Owner Casey Rathburn noted the system's good fall and estimated 25 blocks cleaned with 30 to 35 more projects slated plus work at the disposal plant.

The Soil Conservation Service will conduct an economic survey of Brady to assess SCS financing for a new city lake. The study will measure how much flood damage the dam could prevent, surveying all flood area property owners and properties 10 to 12 feet above the 1938 flood level. The Texas 4-H Award programs will have nine individual and team demonstrations in Brady on Saturday April 5 from 9 am to 12 noon in the office of demonstration agent Vyvien Dunecan. Council Seeks Bids for New Pool and Patrol Car
City Council voted to accept bids for a new swimming pool at the country club with bids due April 15 and to purchase a new Plymouth patrol car with trade-in of the old vehicle. The council also reappointed Mrs. W A Carroll as city recorder to chair the corporation court. G C Nut-Sed Kirk, a retired Brady merchant and former mayor, won Brady's mayoral post Tuesday as a write-in with 507 votes. Leo Oates trailed with 478, incumbent secretary Mrs W P Jones was unseated, and James E Underwood won city secretary. Aldermen Hari Fowler and Dr Harry Priess retained seats. total turnout was 33. The new council meets April 15 with Kirk as mayor and Underwood as secretary.
