School Board Keeps East Ward After Delayed Vote
At a Monday meeting the board reversed December action to discontinue East Ward as a ward school and moved the vocational agriculture class into the building. With about eighty new pupils since term start two wards were seen as insufficient. Delinquent taxpayers support may keep all wards open. A petition with 250 names urged reconsideration. The district plans to refund $136000 bonds, cutting annual interest and debt service to about $8500 for ten years. Old 5.5 percent bonds become 4 to 4.75 percent through the new terms, with bonds moved from Woodmen of the World to a San Antonio firm.

Mrs. Elizabeth Senter Rites Held at Bowie
Mrs. Elizabeth Hayes Senter 85 died at the home of her daughter two miles north of Bowie on Friday March 19. Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Rev. A. J. Quinn presiding with interment in Elmwood Cemetery. She was born July 25 1853 in Bradley County Tennessee and lived in Decatur before moving to Bowie in 1908. Survived by daughter Mrs. Bowden twelve grandchildren seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Out of town relatives attended from Olney Duncan and Decatur Texas.

A Capella Ladies Trio to Appear in Concert
Northwestern State Teachers College choir from Alva Oklahoma will perform a concert at the high school auditorium at 11:00 oclock March 30. The six day 900 mile tour includes nine towns with about a dozen concerts in Oklahoma and North Texas. Leather Goods Plant Being Installed in Bowie
Machinery is being installed this week in the building on Smythe Street formerly occupied by Golden and Son to establish a leather goods plant. T. B. Wilkes supervises the setup which includes sewing machines cutting blocks and hand tools. The plant will produce men belt s and baby shoes and leather novelties while a Bowie based corporation forms. F Garner named superintendent and will relocate with Mrs Garner to Bowie. Mr and Mrs Wilkes and daughter Josephine plan moves to Bowie in a few weeks.

Fire destroys Newport school and gin heap
A Tuesday blaze at Newport school, fanned by north wind, was fought by a bucket brigade and Bowie fire truck. A second fire at the nearby Newport gin, 300 yards away, destroyed 75 cords of wood before noon, with water tubs hauled from wells to aid firefighting. Mrs Lois Cain was hospitalized for a tonsil operation.
