Montague County Meet Schedule Held in Bowie
The Montague County Interscholastic League plans a multi day meet in Bowie from March 17 to April 1 with tennis preliminaries, one act play, rhythm and contest events, choral clubs, arithmetic, spelling, declamations, debate, junior and senior track preliminaries, pentathlon, finals in track and field, and a sequence of performances. Admission ranges from 10 to 25 cents with season tickets and free entry for contestants and coaches. Director General Walter B. Alexander oversees ticket arrangements.

Bowie Enacts Fowl Removal ordinance for gardens
Since March 4 1919 Bowie has had some ordinance to protect flower and vegetable gardens from damage by chickens and other domestic fowls running at large. Any fowl found on non owner property or in public places may be captured or killed by a notifier. Violators face misdemeanor charges with fines from 1 to 10 dollars per offense.

Fiddle Contest Slated March 31 at City Auditorium
The Fiddle Band contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce will occur Friday night March 31 at the City Auditorium after a postponement due to other programs. Bands from Buffalo Springs Blue Grove Post Oak and nearby areas compete for prizes 15 10 and 5 with Ned Horton as emcee. If response grows it could become a permanent free entertainment feature for Bowie and surrounding communities.

82 Years Old A J Higgins Celebrates Birthday in Texas
A J Higgins of Montane County since 1910 and Bowie since 1914 marked his 82nd birthday with a dinner and a family reunion. He shared the day with his 59 year partner, five children, in laws and grandchildren. He was born in Chambers County Alabama on February 18 1857 and married Emma Mickle in 1879. The couple moved to Texas in 1905 living in Quannah before settling in Montague. Higgins keeps informed via newspapers and radio despite limited mobility.

George W. Alcorn dies in Montague County March 2
George W. Alcorn, pioneer resident of Montague County, died March 2 at his Montague home after years of ill health. Funeral at Montague Methodist Church with Rev. S. M. Black officiating. Burial in Montague Cemetery. Survived by widow, one granddaughter Miss Marjorie May Alcorn of Fort Worth, and one sister Mrs. Sarah Nowlin of Shamrock. Born October 1, 1858 in Missouri. He founded the Montague County Abstract office in 1895 and retired due to ill health several years ago.

Alice Rebecca Stevenson Bowles of Bowie died March 5 at 5 40 am. Funeral held at Church of Christ Monday at 10 am with F B Wallace of Duncan presiding. Interment Elmwood Cemetery beside husband George James Bowles. Five grandsons served as pallbearers. numerous relatives attended from Ft Worth Sherman Wichita Falls Ringgold and Bowie. Survived by three children, seventeen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one sister.

Dr. McLane to Speak at First Presby Church
Dr Brooks McLane president of the Presbyterian mission school will preach at the Sunday morning service at the First Presbyterian Church. He will also present moving pictures at seven thirty p m illustrating life at the Texas Mexican Industrial Institute near Kingsville Texas. The school trains Mexican and Texas boys for Christian citizenship with a work based program and self built buildings. The institution, founded by Dr J W Skinner and now led by Dr McLane for 25 years, emphasizes Bible study and practical industry. Bowie Chamber of Commerce sponsors forty six Bowie High School Band members for the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show parade in Fort Worth on March 10. Plans Made for SW Montague Singers Convention
George Brashear president of the Southwest Montague County Singing Convention Henry Parks and Barney P Whitehead met Tuesday night to complete plans for the annual convention to be held here March 26. Invitations have been sent to singers in Texas Oklahoma and Arkansas inviting them to be present. If the weather is pretty a crowd of between 6 000 and 7 000 persons are expected.
