WPA Project on City Council Agenda for Bowie Street Improvements
The Bowie City Council reviewed a WPA project plan prepared by J P Kearby Jr Texas Highway Department to widen U S Highway 81 through Bowie with concrete curb gutters and four foot sidewalks and add a seven foot parkway on Wise Street. The $65 000 proposal would be financed largely by AVPA with property owner aid and could employ about 250 workers for six months. The council supported the plan in principle but needs adjoining property owners to fund fifty cents per front foot before formal action.

Bowie OKs Mayor Salary Cut and Opens Patrol Substation
The Bowie city council reduced the mayor's salary to 25 dollars per month for two years. A new highway patrol substation opened in Bowie with L. Chance and A. J. New Project Under Way in Montague County
J H Stout road commissioner started a new 95 man project in Montague County on Thursday. The five month program will cover 17 miles of lateral roads with six miles gravelled or clay over sand. Project supervisor Morris Thompson and Stout sponsor the effort. Workers will rotate in three shifts, eleven days per month, after proving citizenship under the Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1988.

Rucker Baby Among State's Youngest Band Mascots
James Ronald Rucker listed as one of Texas' youngest mascots at Bowie, only three weeks old when honored. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Rucker and serves as Bowie band mascot directed by his father after receiving the silver baton at chapel exercises.

Work To Start On Highway 59 From Byas Corners To Montague
Work on highway 59 is set to begin March 6 from Byas Corners to Montague. M. W. Watson of Topeka Kansas received work orders February 17 to construct a flexible base and asphalt surface over 4.6 miles from five miles northeast of Bowie to Montague. Grading drainage and bridge work has been completed.

Mrs L H Prater Rites Held Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. La Ella Prater 67 were conducted at the Church of Christ with Sir McDonald officiating and Rev J H Westbrook assisting. Interment followed at Bimwood Cemetery. she died at her East Bowie home after a short illness. Born August 23 1872 in Georgia she moved to Texas as a child and married L H Prater November 9 1890. Survivors include her husband nine children and one great grandchild.

Band Parents Seek Funds for Bass Horn for Bowie High Band
Band Parents Association and Bowie High School band members work with Director Rucker to raise about 50 dollars for a B B flat bass horn to compete in the State Band Meet in Waco on March 30. The worn instrument would stay as school property, loaned to top students, while booster members sell cards and recruit supporters to strengthen regional contest chances.
