A violent thunderstorm struck Bowie causing widespread power outages after a transformer burned near the post office. City electrician D. M. Shelton narrowly escaped injury while repairing the line, later returning to work. Cattle Sale Hits Newport Ranch for $6000

Fire destroys Bowie home and contents
A Monday night blaze on the south side of Bowie destroyed a three room residence occupied by Mr and Mrs Claude Hendrix. The couple were away at the time and most of the contents and much of the building were lost. The building, owned by W R Matthews, reportedly had some insurance while furnishings were uninsured. Cause of the fire is not known.
