The Bowie Dodgers face Bluegrove at Pelham Camp Park on Sunday at 3 00 PM led by manager Barney P Whitehead. Earlier Bowie's 11 June victory over Bluegrove ended 0 to 0 in Bowie's favor.
The Henrietta Negro ball team will play Sunday afternoon at Sunset. Ethrie McDaniel is manager of the Sunset team which has won the last three games and about half of all games played. Miss Lula Belle Jackson visited Washti with her parents.
The Seismograph party of Amerada Petroleum Corporation Tulsa moves to Bowie and sets up in the Donald building. Eighteen families are expected to relocate Friday to establish temporary homes in Bowie.
The Southwest Montague County Singing Convention met at Pleasant Ridge church Sunday with a full attendance. George Brashear presided over the all day program of congregational singing and musical numbers. A basket lunch followed at noon, and the next convention is set for September 24 at Lone Star.
The Tri-County Medical Society gathered in Bowie at Baccus Park for its annual meeting and barbecue on June 22. Physicians from Wichita Falls Ft Worth Dallas and nearby communities attended. the society includes Clay Montague and Wise counties with meetings in Bowie and special sessions in Decatur and Henrietta. Dr Albert Greer of Henrietta serves as president. The group will not meet in May and August. the next meeting is the fourth Thursday night in September.
Sunset resident Bill Davis begins duties as deputy sheriff under Sheriff Dick Lawrence. A longtime peace officer, Davis previously served as Sunset constable and deputy sheriff during Mrs. Chandler's term.
Mrs L W Black traveled Friday for an extended visit in Oklahoma City to stay with relatives.
The First Christian revival, active since June 18, will close Sunday night after nightly services drawing fine crowds. Pastor M. S. Peek and associate pastor Rev. John Hughes praised for leadership and youth work. Special church nights featured Methodist Baptist and Presbyterian guests, with Friday set as All Church Night as the public is urged to attend the final services.
The regular monthly meeting of the community singers takes place Sunday at 2 30 PM in the Cumberland Presbyterian church. President Henry Parks will preside and singers are expected from Nocona Alvord Sunset and other areas to attend.
G. C. Bowden was chosen scoutmaster of Troop 91 at the Bowie Lions Club meeting. Earl Gregory was named assistant scoutmaster. Dale Eales resigned and the July 6 chicken barbecue will install the new officers with committee members listed.
Mr and Mrs W B Alexander depart Wednesday evening for a ten day vacation visiting Houston Athens and Giddings in Texas.
The Bowie Band will give the second concert of the summer season on Saturday evening at 8 15 at the band stand. The varied program aims to please music lovers. The first concert on June 24 drew a large crowd and these weekly concerts have been popular for years.
Rev. B. B. Breitenhirt and son Blake Jr. Logan Stout and Quinton Philley left Monday for the Dallas Presbytery Young People's encampment at Ceta Canyon near Amarillo. The four day session opens Tuesday with the Bowie party due back Saturday.

Attorney General Mann ruled the Fair Trade act conflicts with Texas anti trust law and cannot be enforced. Gov. O Daniel is expected to veto the bill after a bitter legislative clash. Former Texas rangers hold a three day yarn fest and business session at Santa Anna.
The Bowie Dodgers led 5 to 0 against Justin Sunday afternoon but allowed six runs in the last half of the ninth. It was their second defeat of the season. record shown as six wins and two losses.
A two week revival runs July 2 to July 16 at the First Baptist church with Rev. A J Quinn as pastor guiding services. Evangelist singer Joe Trussell from Brownwood directs music and leads daily youth meetings. He is a noted song leader in the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Southern Baptist Convention with yearlong engagements. Services are at 9 30 am and 8 00 pm with evening meetings on the church lawn seating 100 to 1 000 people.
About thirty youths attend the Gregory Presbytery encampment at Pelham Camp Park this week. Rev. E. L. Matthews oversees the camp with Rev. Boiles as host and Miss Mabel Mitchell as hostess. The theme is Victory Through Christ and the song Living For Jesus. Daily schedule begins at 6:00 a.m. with devotions, study, rest, recreation, meals, vesper services, worship, prayer, and lights out at 10:00 p.m. Speakers include Miss Mabel Mitchell and Rev. B. L. Baits, with Rev. A. J. Quinn to speak Friday. Instructors include Mrs. H. D. Meek, Miss Mabel Mitchell, Rev. Matthews, and Miss Emma Jean McCuistian. camp runs through Sunday with breaking set for Monday morning.
P D and W T Myers of Bowie purchased a registered Jersey cow from J H Sturgis of Waco. The Jersey Cattle Club lists the animal as Nice Boy's Queenie number 847946, reflecting the Myers as noted Bowie farmers and cattlemen.
Mrs. D. T. Banks arrives back in Hobart Oklahoma on Wednesday from a two week vacation with her mother Mrs. M. L. Poréline and Miss Beula Love ace.
Ned Horton of the Retail Merchants Association says most stores close July 4 as presidential approval awaits for a new Nazi Youth Administration project at Bowie High School. The plan includes a fifty by ninety foot native rock building housing the N Y A machine shop and Vocal Agricultural department with classes in wood work drawing tin work auto repair and more for under eighteen boys under supervision. The county’s N Y A shop will be the only facility of its kind nearby with $3,500 in machinery ordered and readiness hoped by July 15.
The Bowie News notes bids to remove the Court House dome and cover the opening, with labor bids due July 11. The current building replaced a 1912 wind damaged native stone structure erected in 1884. Montague County’s first Court House was log built, later frame, then stone in 1879, with the 1884 fire linked to cattle theft indictments.
In a Chamber of Commerce meeting on Friday June 23 County Agent A S Elliott Vernon Pyle and others nominated seven men to form the Montague County Dairy Improvement Committee Their task is to improve dairy quality feed and herd production The group will meet Saturday July 1 at 3 30 PM to elect officers and set a work program.
Jasper Thompson Cantwell a Bowie resident for about forty years died Sunday night at the hospital from a heart attack. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. A J Quinn officiating and Elmwood cemetery interment. Cantwell born November 14 1898 in Parker County Texas was employed by Sinclair Pipe Line Co and survived by Flora Neeld his wife two children Billy Wayne and Dorothy his parents J A and Mrs Cantwell three brothers Frank Joe Ivy and two sisters Evelyn Lovelady and Mrs Moody.
Rev J H Westbrook pastor of the First Methodist church attended the Monday and Tuesday session of the Pastor's School at Southern Methodist University. This school is held each summer for two weeks by the North Texas Conference.
Mr and Mrs Lam Couch announce the birth of their grandson to Mrs Benton Sinclair Electra and Mr Sinclair Compton California The baby is named Harold LeRoy and adds joy to the family
Abilene Christian College male quartet will present a varied program at the Church of Christ on Monday evening July 4 at 8 15. Slides will show campus life at ACC plus the band. The quartet is described as very fine and the public is invited to enjoy the evening of entertainment. A free will offering will be taken to cover the visiting singers expenses.
Joe Gray, ten, was injured Monday afternoon when he climbed onto an ice truck and triggered the ice crusher. Driver R H Gray parked in front of Griffin's Drug Store. Joe suffered two deep gashes in his right arm, lost blood, and was treated at the Bowie Clinic.
