Gasoline Pump Burns At Miller's Filling Station
The Bowie Fire Department rushed to Bob Miller's new filling station on East Wise Street about 8:00 AM Thursday when a gasoline pump caught fire. The fire was brought under control quickly with no major damage beyond the destroyed pump.

Rain Lifts Montague County Crops After Week of Wind
Rain spread across the state early in the week bringing over one inch in many areas. Montague county farmers saw corn recover from wind and drought while fruit vegetables and pastures revived and a strong watermelon crop was forecast. Bowie reported three quarters of an inch with a 1.5 inch downpour in a short span on Thursday.

Bradley Jewelry Store Burglarized
The Bradley Jewelry Store suffered a Tuesday night burglary with an estimated loss of 1000. Entrance was gained via the back, a screen cut, and the window forced open. A tire tool and part of a large pair of shears were found. Watches rings necklaces and leather novelties were stolen. Fingerprints were found. sheriff's department of Montague and Bowie police investigate. The store is owned by Gayle Bradley who discovered the loss on Wednesday morning. No burglary insurance.

Bowie Chamber Chooses G L Griffin New Director
G L Griffin was named director of the Bowie Chamber of Commerce at the regular Monday meeting succeeding resignation of H M Moore. Griffin, owner and manager of Griffin's Drug Store, is active in civic affairs and vice president elect of the Lions Club. Tandy Welch city marshal of Bowie narrowly escaped serious injury after discharging his pistol Saturday night. He, Mrs. Welch, and daughter Janine were on the porch when he dropped the gun from his pocket. The bullet grazed his right ear without drawing blood and he received tetanus serum as a precaution at the Bowie Clinic.

Bowie's highly regarded volunteer department aided Nocona on Saturday night June 10 as a large fire caused about 30000 dollars in damage before control was achieved. Earlier in the week Ringgold called for help and, with units from Henrietta Nocona Ryan Okla and Bowie, the blaze was knocked down around 5:00 am Friday. Three brick business houses the Hawkins Feed Store Hawkins Brothers Merchandise and a vacant Dunaway building were destroyed with losses estimated at 30000 to 35000 dollars.
