Explosion damages gas tank near Denver tracks
Early Saturday a 550 gallon empty gasoline tank near the Denver tracks was ignited by a weed-burning car. The Sinclair Refining Company tank was demolished with no injuries reported.

Bowie firefighters joined a neighbor to battle a large blaze in Nocona Saturday night. The Nocona picture theatre interior burned fully, causing about 30000 in damage. Highway 370 To Be Improved Widening Bridges and Culverts
WPA project by the State Highway Department will widen drainage structures on U S Highway 370 from Bowie to Wichita Falls. Bridges and culverts from twenty to thirty six feet with rails, and unrailed structures to forty two feet, with operation slated to start Monday June 19.

Old Age Assistance Office Opens for Limited Registration
J B Green Jr says Bowie office at City Auditorium will be open only on Wednesday June 21 and Wednesday June 28 to register applicants under the new law. Since June 2 when Gov W Lee O Daniel signed the Liberalized Old Age Assistance act, 129 have registered. The office had been open daily for two weeks and 682 elderly residents in Montague County now receive Old Age Assistance.

Drowning at Bowie Lake Claims Two Lives
Tragedy at Bowie Lake Thursday night left Miss Vivian Lewlyn and Lawrence Edgin dead after their motor boat shipped water and capsized. Wendell McCloud, the boat owner, and Miss Lula Bell Jackson attempted rescue as Edgin and Lewlyn disappeared, searchers scoured the lake with several hundred townspeople still seeking the bodies at midnight. Edgin, nineteen, was a high school graduate and football standout. Lewlyn was granddaughter of Mrs. E. R. Sloan.
