L R Wood Bowie High School assistant coach leads Lions Club summer juveniles program at Pelham Park. About 100 kids daily participate in planned recreation with baseball at 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. A wading pool draws 18 children early in the week as youths enjoy swimming and games under Wood.
The First Baptist Church will hold a Service of Dedication for the new Hammond organ on Wednesday evening June 25 at 8 00 o clock Mrs F R Collard a distinguished member of the American Guild of Organists and organist of the church will give the dedicatory recital An invitation is extended to all church members and the entire citizenship to attend.
R O Harding 77 died after a stroke at his Bowie home. Funeral services at First Methodist Church Friday at 3 00 pm with Rev Charles S Wilhite in charge. Interment Elmwood Cemetery Burgess Funeral Home in charge. Survived by widow one son and three daughters from Bowie and nearby cities.
Bob Hankins announces the opening of Bob's Fix It Shop in the former Ox's Barber Shop on Tarrant Street. He brings experience from the Pullman Company and will upholster furniture, service electric refrigerators, and perform all kinds of household repair work.
Mr and Mrs E C Ely and daughter of Corcoran California are visiting friends and relatives in Bowie for a short stay.
Chamber of Commerce directors met at the bus station cafe for a breakfast session and discussed a slogan contest for Bowie. A $5 prize will go to the chosen author. entries are due by Tuesday July 8. Examples include Wichita Falls City That Faith Built and Fort Worth Where the West Begins.
Mr and Mrs Curtis Pettigrew of Ovid Michigan AR 2 announce the arrival of an eight and one half pound son born May 25 He has been named Roger Dale Mrs Pettigrew was Miss Alma Ashton of Montague before her marriage.
J. E. Shelton traveled to Frost this week to be by his mother's bedside as she underwent a major operation.
A large swarm from a Nebraska bee公司 truck escaped near Reeder's Humble Station at the Smythe and Wise streets intersection. The queen remained with the box as the rest dispersed after the gas stop. Local men failed to recapture the queen. the swarm eventually faded, leaving bee men worried about starvation without a home.
The city orders two large pumps with motors to double the lake to reservoir water capacity. Mayor John McNatt says delivery will take about 90 days. The move aims to prevent a possible water delivery shortage after long standing need.

Town residents are urged to bundle newspapers and magazines for donation to support building Bowie Hand Hall. Place tied bundles on porches or lawns on the second and fourth Tuesday. keep papers in separate bundles so collectors can pick up efficiently.
County Judge L. D. Eakman was informed by the State Highway Commission of a new policy for Farm-to-Market Roads. No additional Federal secondary funds will be available for secondary roads until July 1, 1949, or possibly July 1950. The commission proposes a cooperative plan with counties to advance more road building and outlines steps for communities to follow.
A Bowie Store advertises a fire sale this week to clear a large stock of office supplies and equipment. The items are displayed at the Shelton Electric building on Mason Street, former C. H. Parker site, with hundreds of reductions offered.
Mr and Mrs Lee Tucker and grandson Melvin are making an extended trip to Colorado and California with plans to visit multiple locations and return later this year.

Fred Sorrels announces plans to relocate to Fort Worth to manage the general offices of Sorrels Oil Company. He has bought a modern home near Texas Christian University and will sell his Bowie residence. Friends note his strong role in local oil development including the Hildreth pool and other Texas discoveries. the company is active in Stephens County and beyond.
Mr and Mrs G H Golden attended a family reunion in Addington Oklahoma on Sunday at the home of niece Miss Nona Arnold. Other attendees included A C Golden who flew from Wichita Falls R M W E and Miss Nettie Golden of Duncan Mr and Mrs Walter R Golden of Oklahoma City with R E Golden of Graham unable to attend.
Bowie residents are urged to observe new traffic regulations issued by City Marshal Tandy Welch. Rules cover right of way on green signals, no left or U turns at intersections, stop at red, cautious behavior on amber, and pedestrian crossing only on green. Parking rules restrict center street parking and require parking within white curb lines. Special emphasis on cyclists and horse drawn vehicles and emergency vehicle priority.
