Allen Blackmon passes away after short illness
Winnie Inez Joplin Blackmon eight died at home Monday afternoon after a brief illness. Born May 4 1909 at Vashti she was converted at eleven and joined the Baptist Church. She married Allen Blackmon January 7 1928 and they had daughter Agnes Jernice, six. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church with Rev A J Quinn officiating. The family recently moved to Bowie where Mr Blackmon runs a Marathon Filling Station. Survivors include her husband and daughter, her parents Mr and Mrs C H Joplin, two sisters Ivy Cantwell and Louise Joplin, and a brother of Wichita Falls.

Infant Fractures Leg While Playing on Bed
Ralph Gerald Murphy two year old son of Dennis and Mrs Murphy of Turkey Texas fractured his right leg just above the knee while playing on a bed Sunday noon. He received emergency treatment locally then was taken to a Memphis hospital for further care. The boy’s parents were preparing their fourth wedding anniversary dinner at the time.

Hoskins Wins National Publicity Contest Honor
Brice W. Hoskins of Los Angeles won first honors in a nation wide publicity contest directing a Community Chest campaign in Los Angeles. The award was given by the National Social Work Publicity Council of New York. More than 450 Community Chests and Councils entered the contest. Hoskins is the son of Mrs W J Linnen and was raised in Bowie.

Bowie's Good Will Tours End with Community Support
The Bowie Good Will Tours committee reports the first annual series ended May 26 in Alvord after entertaining about ten thousand people in Montague Forestburg Ringgold Stoneburg Bellevue Blue Grove Buffalo Springs Vashti Newport Post Oak Sunset Park Springs and Alvord. Subscriptions from about 90 individuals and firms funded the effort with receipts totaling 110.11 and expenses of 101.48 leaving 8.42 for band benefit advertising. The committee notes remaining electric light material valued at 9.86 for reuse and praises Bowie citizens and performers for the project’s success and goodwill.

City approves raw water from Lake Bowie for highway work
The Bowie Water Department has realized over $300 from water sales to the construction firm building the Bowie to Stoneburg highway. The company sought permission to draw raw lake water with its own pumping and piping after near town usage at summer rates. council ordered a lake pipe meter and to charge net pumping costs. About 1.5 million gallons have been used so far with similar expected more.
