Rep Tony Fenoglio says House Bill 663 brings Montague and Clay counties under Game and Fish. A warden and biologist will headquarter in Bowie with Billy Ray Hoyle moving from Georgetown. The biologist’s name is not yet known.
Geophysical Service Inc a seismograph crew moved to Bowie on Monday. John Donna is crew chief and they will maintain offices on Anderson Street where they have rented a house. There are several families in the crew.
Wichita Falls business men toured Bowie on Wednesday visiting local shops and meeting merchants over coffee at the Slaughter Drug Store as part of their trade territory outreach.
Freese and Nichols engineers from Fort Worth will brief the city council Monday night on lake development plans to enable an immediate bid call. Alternate bids may be considered if funds fall short. Purification plant bids will follow after plans finish. Several lake land deals await deed signing. court action may be limited. Green estate land value hearing postponed awaiting possible settlement.
The new A and P store in Bowie is under construction with Bert Cassle and El ton Hill as owners. C. O. Stom Jr handles electrical work, Roy Garrett supplies Carrier air conditioning, Bowie Ready-Mix provides concrete, Fryar Plumbing installs plumbing, and Woodward Roofing of Wichita Falls installs the roof. Mead's bread will be supplied by Fred Mershon, while Carnation Company of Texas will provide fresh milk and ice cream for the store.
Mrs Mary Privitt spent Friday to Monday visiting with daughter and family Mr and Mrs L A Stanley and their daughter at Longview.
Mr and Mrs Bill Davidson and their son will depart midweek for Alice where Rev Davidson will serve as pastor of the Christian church. The local Christian church currently has no pastor to succeed Rev Davidson.

Gail Wood was named head majorette of the University of Arkansas Razorback Band for the next school year. A sophomore, she has served as a band majorette this past term.
Mrs Alvis Cornell and her children from Fort Worth visited Mr and Mrs John White and Mr and Mrs Gordon Heard and their families during the weekend.
Rev. Warren McSwain is reappointed for one year to First Methodist, Bowie by the 90th North Texas annual conference in Dallas. The Bowie congregation urged his return. he and Mrs. McSwain are popular, with church growth and youth civic work noted.
Dick Allen of the Allen Miller service station was injured when his car collided with a sand truck on Vashti road Tuesday afternoon. He has ridden Brahman bulls in rodeos but suffered painful injuries from the crash.
An estimated four hundred people fished at Bowie Lake last weekend as more than a ton of fish were released from rotenone stimulation. E W Bonn led the effort with help from local anglers. County workers weighed in catches including a 12½ pound catfish and multiple eight to six pound bass. The lake will be restocked in two weeks with Georgia red ear perch, bass, and channel cat. Water and growth will be monitored and additional fish added as needed at no local cost.
The A and P Grocery announces a grand opening Monday June 13 at the new Pecan and Smythe location. Elton Hill manager says prizes include a table model TV and 28 total prizes with officers of the company attending the event.
Jim Harmon a SMU student from Cushing Oklahoma joins First Methodist Church Bowie as associate pastor in charge of music and youth work. He begins Sunday June 12 after directing the chancel choir and will complete his SMU School of Music studies before pursuing a Bachelor of Divinity at Perkins School of Theology.
The Bowie post office now offers certified mail with proof of delivery for 15 cents, plus 7 cents for a return receipt. The service applies to first class mail with no indemnity value claimed, and regular postage applies in addition. Special delivery remains available for the usual extra charge.
Bill Crowder, father of Mrs. John Angove of Bowie, died Monday at a veterans hospital in Amarillo. He lived in Memphis, Texas, and is survived by his widow, one son Glenn, and one daughter, Mrs. John Angove. Local relatives attending the funeral included Mrs. L. H. Angove, Mrs. Roger Giles, Mrs. Glenice Copeland, Mrs. Fern Guston, Mr. and Mrs. John Angove, Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Cox of Fort Worth, and Mr. and Mrs. Penn Jones of Midlothian. Staples for most makes of stapling machines at News Office.
President George Hoeldtke announced the Bowie Junior Chamber of Commerce committees. Budget and finance includes Billy Neeld as chairman with W. C. Buchanan H. M. Huskey Jr. Bob Bird and Joe Bruton. Other panels list Gordon Heard chairing Awards with Jack Lovette and Jack Weems.
Charles Bartlett formerly of the Stamps Ozark Quartet will headline the Fundamental Baptist Church evening service this Sunday, June 12, inviting attendees to hear him sing.
A metal box sealed in the corner stone of the old Agriculture Building yielded mementos after the structure was razed for a new grade school. Inside were Bowie newspapers, a Bible cover badly worn but readable inside, a Lions Club pin, a Masonic tag, a Royal Arch coin, a Bowie jackrabbit ticket, coins, and a board member card. The dedication on December 20 1939 cited Walter B. Alexander as superintendent and noted NYA funded the $16 000 building with $5 000 from the school district and $3 600 in power machinery. The NYA project served county wide classes in wood metal and shop for boys 18 to 24.
July 9 is set for a bond election to finance right of way for Highway 287 as an expressway through Montague County. Only voters in the benefit road district may vote, with two thirds of ballots required to pass. The county favors bonds over a tax method, noting tax cessation after bonds are paid.
The Bowie garment factory began production Monday with five employees and by Wednesday noon employed fourteen. Additional staff will be added as quickly as they can be secured or trained. Mrs. Richard Werner states.

Dismissals include numerous entries such as Mrs Jack Gardner Mrs T D Veach and several repeat names from admissions.
Bowie Riding Club won first place in the Nocona rodeo parade with 43 members. Other clubs entered were Temple Oklahoma Henrietta Burkburnett Kamay and Nocona. Dick Allen serves as Bowie Roping Club president.
