Ontague Rural Tournament Schedule And Entries
The Ontague Rural Tournament runs this week with games beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing Friday and Saturday. Admission is 10 cents, coaches and parents free, with contestant tickets for players and coaches as teams register. A long list of boys and girls basketball and volleyball matchups includes Lone Star, Spencer, Lindale, Leona, Denver, Salona, Alamo, Lake Valley, Mt. Tabor, Peabody, Mallard, Hollow, Cottonwood, Belcherville, and others, plus semi finals and finals set for Saturday night.

Mrs. Bessie Bell Anderson of Montague County died from injuries after a fall from a moving car two weeks earlier. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Jester White and Rev. J. H. Westbrook presiding. Interment was in Salona cemetery. She was born July 20 1891 and taught in Denver and Dumas before moving to Bowie and Arp. Survived by husband two children and several relatives.

Former Bowie Citizens to Build Airport
Sam Coffman a longtime Bowie resident buys land 144 miles northwest of Bowie for an airport site beside the Wichita Falls Highway. One runway nearly finished with plans for four. A rock hangar is under construction and future hangars will follow. Coffman, with 19 years flying experience, will base operations in Bowie and open the field to the public. city will maintain runways.

Watson Submits Low Bid for Highway 59 Topping
Topeka Kansas contractor M W Watson submitted the lowest bid of 30368 for the topping of highway 59 from Byas corner into Montague. Grading drainage and bridge work already finished with 36 feet crushed rock and gravel base plus 22 feet asphalt surface. Project funded by State and Federal Government with Federal secondary aid funds and will use certified labor from the national unemployment service.

Scout Troop 116 Formed After Thursday Board Review

Fire Damages Old Post Office Building
A fire of undetermined origin damaged the upper story of the old post office, owned by J E Wathall, Mrs Paul Donald, and RC Cady. The library of J Chancellor suffered the most, with an estimated $2,500 in losses. Offices for David Garlington Insurance, Farm Loan, and Leonard and Philley Real Estate were affected. The blaze was spotted by Ty 4 Lindsey, and the fire brigade confined the damage to one building. A nearby Moseley car also burned upholstery but was not severely damaged.
