Local Officers Arrest Oklahoma Fugitive Hero

Local officers in Bowie arrested an escaped convict Thursday night found in a Rock Island box car. The man, who gave the name H. P. Moore, had fled the McAlister Oklahoma Penitentiary after serving six months of a seven year term for car theft. Bowie police received a tip from a "road buddy" noticing a number on his undershirt. He admitted being an escaped convict when confronted. Jackson Welch and Raines planned to have Moore sent back to the penitentiary with a $25 reward attached for his capture.

Rotary Anns Arc Tarians Christmas Party Highlights

Members of the Rotary Club and Anns enjoyed their annual Christmas party on Wednesday night at the Morrow Girll Room. A Christmas banquet followed festive decorations and a Christ anthem then carol singing. Gifts were presented from a Christmas tree. Melba Culp received twin bedroom set as a club gift, with four guests in attendance.

Watch Night Program For Methodist Youth In Wichita Falls

Young Methodists from Wichita Falls District plan a Watch Night and worship service at First Methodist Church on December 31 beginning at 8 30 p m. Dr Paul Martin will lead the service with 25 ministers assisting. Reserved rooms and banquet arrangements are available through Floral Heights and local pastors.

Buriss 16 Buried at Pleasant Hill after Huddleston Death

Everett Burris age 16 of Huddleston was buried December 29 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery after services held Thursday afternoon in Huddleston. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill with Whitley Funeral Mann in charge. He was the son of Mrs. Jack Burris and was a popular local youth with ties to the Healdton area.

Community Singers to Meet at First Baptist Church

The regular monthly meeting of the Community Singers is set for Sunday at 2 30 PM at the First Baptist Church. A large crowd from surrounding communities is expected, with G. Doc Jackson presiding.

Duren dies from injuries in wood saw accident near Sunset

James W. Duren died December 22 at Bowie Clinic Hospital from injuries after his leg was cut off while sawing wood near Sunset. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ of Sunset with burial in Sunset Cemetery. Born January 22, 1889 in Texas, he moved to Montague County in 1929 and was survived by his mother, two sisters, a brother and several nieces and nephews.

Grandmother of Mrs. Ted Moore Dies at 935

Mr and Mrs Ted Moore attended the funeral of Mrs Rebeccah Holt at the Methodist Church in Herretta Thursday afternoon Mrs Holt was 935 years old and had been ill only about two weeks.

James E White of Buffalo Springs Buried Monday Afternoon

James E White, 72, died at his home four miles southeast of Buffalo Springs on Sunday December 26. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Monday at Pleasant Valley Church conducted by Rev. Covington. Whitley and Bowden handled arrangements. Surviving are his wife Della L White and several children and grandchildren.

Hospital Notes From Shannon and Nearby Towns

B E Copeland returned home in Shannon on Christmas afternoon after several weeks in the hospital. Cornelison, son of Mr and Mrs W H Cornelison, improves at the hospital after head injuries from a Christmas night car strike on the Wichita Falls highway. Henderson shows improvement and expects to go home soon after staying since December 18. Mrs R R Brown of Henrietta plans to return home Thursday after treatment for an ulcerated eye. She resides on Route B in Henrietta.

Dalton Staats Recovering After Head Injury

Jim Dalton Staats is recovering from a fractured free delert at the Hospital after a Friday incident in the barn. He is the six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Staats. L. S. Wright returned home in Aquilla after ten days as a patient at the BO' 10 days.

Lions Club Christmas Gift Night Delights Local Kids

One hundred eighty five children under twelve in the City Auditorium received gifts from the Lions Club Community Christmas tree. Each child got a toy clothing and a sack of nuts candy apples and oranges. The event included carols a choir and an invocation. The club also provided groceries for four needy families.
