Ra camp set Saturday night with North Texas units. Camp Hood reached Sunday night where the men undergo rigid training this week and next. Many are sore from recent vaccinations. Bowie equipment including two jeeps three 21 ton trucks and two half tracks was carried by guardsmen. The company includes Bowie's leading young men from prominent local families. Bowie Softball play-offs set with W E W and Lions Club

Impressive Last Rites Held For Will Young
A large Bowie funeral service for Will S. Young was held at First Methodist Church on Monday at 4 pm. Rev. J. C. Mann led the service with Rev. Clark Russell, former Bowie pastor, delivering the sermon. The event drew many locals and out-of-town guests, with Rotary Club members among attendees.

Reinterment for Pfc Oliver Scroggins Held in Bowie
The body of Pfc Oliver Scroggins arrived in Bowie for reinterment after being killed in France on February 6 1945. Services are set for Sunday August 29 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with full military honors and Elmwood Cemetery burial. Surviving are his parents four brothers one sister and extended relatives.

Car Crash on Mason Street Injures Four People
Richard Kelsey remained in hospital with critical injuries after a two car collision on Mason Street Sunday night. His stepfather W L Trotter, also injured, was discharged. Vera Bragg and others including Jimmy King, Jimmy Lyons, and Paul Gallia were treated and released. King suffered a leg injury.

Seven Charges After Men Fight State Trooper
Wise County residents Odell Chambless and Thomas Chambless face multiple charges in Montague County after an encounter with State Highway Patrolman J. P. Davis near Sunset. Davis was cut and a gun was fired during the struggle as the truck was stopped. Odell Chambless is also charged with drunkenness driving while intoxicated no operator's license and disturbance and released on bond. Thomas Chambless faces aggravated assault drunkenness and disturbance and also released on bond. A Wichita Falls man Wilson aided the officer and the suspects were taken to Bowie.

Water Drive and Concert Plans February Meeting

New Highway Nearing Completion Near Bowie end paving almost finished
The Bowie end of the Newport highway paving project is one and a half miles from completion. Crews begin laying crushed rock base as seven miles of new paving are expected to be hot topped and open before the first freeze, possibly in October, per Loyd Tucker of Bowie and the Highway Department.
