Unions Balk at Broad New York Strike
In New York on September 28 the planned general walkout in support of a carmen strike failed to materialize. Police found no evidence of a citywide strike as the United Building Trades with 100,000 members refrained from action. Longshoremen and mariners also did not join a sympathy strike, while teamsters held a secret meeting with undisclosed outcomes. Motormen earn eight to ten dollars daily, dimming prospects of a locomotive engineers strike.
