Litchfield Vows Farm Loan Leads to Grantee Name Change

In Middlesex Superior Court Judge Knowlton presided. A verdict for defendant closed the case James J. Litchfield v Angelina Litchfield. Report on discharged convicts aid by Massachusetts Society

At the quarterly meeting of the executive committee the agent reported 57 discharged convicts advised and assisted in the quarter. Of these 20 had been incarcerated in state prison, 37 from houses of correction, 55 were intemperate at arrest, 41 were single and 16 married, all could read and write, 27 had multiple prior arrests. Many assisted have proven worthy of the confidence and aid.

Police Captains Seek Deputy Superintendent Post

A large group of police captains has filed for the deputy superintendent role with the board. Examinations are slated for next week. Results from recent tests for lieutenants, sergeants, and patrolmen generate much interest. High lieutenant scores complicate appointment, while sergeant and patrolman marks also meet expectations. Inspector Hanscom, taking a noncompetitive exam for chief inspector, is credited with 91 45 percent by examiners.

Tufts entering class size holds steady at about 45

Tufts College reports no increase in its entering class. Registrations show 20 regulars 8 first engineers 1 second engineer and 2 regular specials. The divinity school adds five new names with three to graduate in 89 and two in 88. Two more students will enter soon bringing total to seven for that department. Overall no faculty changes.
