Bryan departs for Chicago to consult national committee

The Hon. W J Bryan left Bryan Nebraska tonight for Chicago over the Burlington railroad in a hurried trip. He plans to stay briefly and return tomorrow evening to confer with Chairman Jones and other national committee members about the campaign and his future moves.

Largest train load of cotton shipped from St Louis to Boston

The Chicago and Alton railroad carried thirty cotton cars from Texas Oklahoma. It is the first large shipment of the season and routine weekly trainloads are arranged. The St Louis to Boston run will take four days.

Hanna Defends Trust Issue Charge as Bryan Bugaboo

Senator Hanna, traveling from Cleveland to New York, says a Chicago speech on trusts was garbled and insists there are no trusts in the legal sense while noting there are combinations of capital that may harm the public. He calls the trust issue a Bryan bugaboo and predicts the money question will soon become paramount. He has not yet decided on stumping in the East and denies issuing any debate challenge.

At a regular Building Trades Council meeting Joseph H. Post was elected president and Mark B. Mulvey chosen business agent for the second time. Other officers include James F. Coated Elders Pelted With Tar in Mansfield Outrage

A mob seized Ephraim Bassinger of Bluffton and Silas Moot of Lima as they rode an Erie train into Mansfield. Bassinger was stripped while Moot resisted. both men were tarred with a varnish-like coating, doused, then dressed and jailed. They were later sent away on a Pennsylvania train after cleaning.

Catholic churches across the Boston archdiocese collected funds yesterday for Galveston relief. Archbishop Williams appealed last week, and parishioners gave generously.
