Philadelphia Defeated As Hahn Struggles On Mound

In Philadelphia on September 21, Cincinnati defeated the Phillies 5 to 4 as inability to hit Hahn hampered Philadelphia. An eighth inning substitution and a ninth inning error by Beckley left the game within reach, but Goeckel failed to deliver. Elberfeld injured in the fifth, attendance 1596.

Two Hold-Ups Reported in Boston as Robberies Increase

Early yesterday morning two hold ups occurred in Boston with no arrests yet. H C Wardwell of East Boston was assaulted on the Common losing a gold watch and chain as three men attacked him. Henry E Chamberlain of Somerville was knocked senseless on Howard street near Bulfinch and robbed of 12 dollars and loose change. Police believe the same trio committed both robberies.

Crane and Bates Club Forms in Ward 7 Meeting

About twenty colored Republicans in Ward 7 met at 6 Porter Street to form a Crane and Bates club. Rufus J. Smith was elected president, Joseph F. Sims secretary, and Thomas Ward treasurer. A ten member rallying committee was chosen and a three person prep group given authority to call a ward meeting before the caucus on Tuesday Sept 26.
