President Steyn of the Orange Free State voiced support for Kruger and condemned Britain’s approach to the Transvaal. He said the Orange Free State is treaty-bound to aid the Transvaal and accused Britain of bad faith, while hoping a joint commission could reach an agreement.

Mr and Mrs Dennis Buckley ages 70 and 72 perished in a fire at their Summer street home in Stoughton Massachusetts. Neighbors and three passing men fought to reach the sleeping rooms but could not save Mrs Buckley and Mr Buckley’s bed in a second floor room was found burned. The basement origin is undetermined and the gutted house stands as a tragic end for long respected locals.
False key workers broke into several residences last night, stealing jewelry and clothing valued about $200. J C Waite of 159 West Springfield Street reported entry via false keys at 11 PM, with items including a $75 diamond ring and various pieces. John McKenzie of 4 Asylum Street reported a separate break in, with $50 worth of clothing taken.
