St Clair Tunnel hailed as great engineering feat
Port Huron Michigan September 20. A ceremonial ride marked the first official passage through the St Clair tunnel linking Port Huron and Sarnia. Notables including Sir Henry Tyler and Governor Winans attended a banquet and speeches celebrated the project before the train returned to the registry of officials and guests. The tunnel, built beneath Lake Huron’s outlet, uses twin shields, 25,000 tons of lining, and 20 foot interior diameter. It shortens Chicago to Atlantic seaboard travel by about six miles and saves two hours.

Rainbow of 1646 sparks Kansas rivalries over town claims
In Paddleford and Garrisonville a storm rainbow is debated as the 1646 event. Professor Leimgruber cites Chromatic Curves to link the arch to Paddleford, while Principal Jordan calls the tale a quack claim. The dispute fuels town rivalries and distracts from real issues.
