Canal Bridge Ready Soon Over Cape Cod Canal
The steel cantilever railroad bridge over Cape Cod Canal at Buscard's Bay, built by the Pennsylvania Steel Bridge Co for Cape Cod Construction Co, is nearly complete and will soon open. The 205 foot span rises 10 feet above water with a 812 foot lower stringer, 160 foot pier centers, and 150 foot width. It will be electrically operated to carry freight and express trains. The canal depth variation and river run help prevent ice and sand buildup, with an eight foot jetty at Sagamore and a 2500 foot cross jetty forming a large T for vessel traffic.

Banks Should Start With 20 Percent Surplus
Washington reports proposed changes to the national bank law may require newly formed banks to hold a 20 percent surplus and an unimpaired capital from day one. Currently a $25 000 paid-in capital can drop to $5 000 for fixtures and startup costs, delaying unimpaired capital for years. The reform aims to prevent capital impairment at launch.
