Pres. Kiley of the Common Council was escorted from Boston's old court house by policemen as rooms and corridors filled with 1800 names. The incident, described as the heaviest day ever known, drew crowding and tension in the historic building.
The city saw the heaviest ever registration at the election commissioners office with 1800 names added by 10 p.m. Among wards 6 7 8 9 13 14 18 19 and 21 leading the rush. Officials predicted a total well above prior days as crowds filled the old Court House corridors until late.
A Pierpont schoolhouse rally in Ward 7 featured McNamara Sullivan and Donovan Crowley campaigns with sharp exchanges. President Kiley accused Kelcher of planning knockout drops, sparking police intervention as crowd tensions rose and tempers flared.
Mayor Quincy argues against boycotting the Paris exposition over the Dreyfus case. He condemns the Rennes judgment as a moral crime but says boycotting would worsen matters and hurt France and the Allies. Fire at 1129 Washington Street injures no one but causes extensive damage to B. Spinoza & Co. cigarmakers and surrounding offices. The blaze started about 12:20 AM and took about ninety minutes to subdue, with fear of explosive powder and noxious gases guiding firemen who drenched the drug store below. Damages estimated at 15 000 to 20 000 dollars. water caused most losses on lower floors while upper halls burned.

New York journalist quotes Mr. Sewall on Sept 13 about the steamship Great Eastern during its voyage. He says there was no friction or vibration and notes an average shown during the trip.

Samuel Brush a 26 year old elevator boy, residing at 78 Sawyer Street, was arrested by Inspectors Shields and Kelly for larceny of a $250 clock from Fields and Cook of Water Street. The clock vanished Aug 16 during the regular boy’s vacation. later found with a Providence pawnbroker who returned it to Boston. Brush denies the accusation.
Captain Bartlett arrives at St John s Newfoundland with Windward crew to plan Arctic work and ship repairs. The White Star liner Oceanic from Liverpool arrives for its maiden voyage, impressing crowds in port and offering public inspection.
Fair and cool conditions expected Thursday and Friday in New England and eastern New York. Winds will be mainly fresh from the north, with Boston area seeing clear weather and northeast winds shifting to northwest by Friday.
Benjamin Stearns aged 16 was seriously burned in a blaze at 181 Harrison avenue last evening. The lodging house, occupied by Carrie Stearns, woke from a kettle of fat boiling over. Estimated loss runs about $10.
