Frederick Douglass Honored by Wendell Phillips Club Reception
The Wendell Phillips Club at the Revere House hosted Frederick Douglass before his Europe voyage. About sixty-five guests, including leading Black and White emancipation figures, attended as letters from Hoar and others were read. Douglass recalled his escape, praised Garrison Phillips and Bowditch, and urged progressive self-improvement amid rising anti slavery sentiment.
