Portiano Maine September 12 fire destroyed two dwelling houses and a stable at Deerine owned by Martin Best and occupied by Martin Best and Thomas Malone. Loss about 8500 with 200 insurance. Origin suspected as chimney defect.
An alarm at 2:12 a.m. from Box 461 reported a fire in a shed of a building at the corner of Alfred street and Arlington avenue in Charlestown. Occupants were Charles S. Burbank and Nathan Ryder. Damage estimated at 50 with unknown cause.
Salem reports about 400 workers at work in tanneries with similar numbers idle in Peabody as a weeklong delay for nonunion staffing nears expiry. Ten Robson men have returned under a circular. The Knights plan political action nominating Rev. Willard Spaniding of Peabody for Congress in the seventh district and seeking Democratic endorsement. Spaniding has strong Knights influence and local electors backed him for selectman.
Christ Church Worcester a brick church on Main street dedicated with about 1000 attendees. The building and land cost $24000. City clergy participated and Rev. B B Tyler of New York City delivered the dedication sermon.

General Miles arrives in Arrigurraur to meet 40 Chiricahua and Warm Spring Indians en route to Florida by way of St Louis. He asserts the Apaches were not prisoners of war and will be placed back on the Apache reservation, a removal motive opposed by the Interior Department but driven by Miles over five months amid opposition.
The Republican conference of the sixth congressional district covering Chester and Delaware counties met in Philadelphia yesterday and nominated Smedly Darling ton. The contest with incumbent Everhart was bitter and Everhart is likely to run as an independent. Darlington held a county convention majority, Everhart protested but was overruled.
One hundred members of the Forty-ninth Regiment attended the Dalton reunion on Saturday in Springfield. Before dinner, General Brett’s widow, the regiment’s first colonel, greeted attendees on Governor Weston’s piazza. The unit marched in review and Senator Dawes delivered a speech with enthusiastic reception.
