Sluggish Tone Grips Market Ahead of Bonds and Cotton Reports

Stock market traders faced a dull session with Amalgamated and Hill-Morgan issues leading the early weakness. After a brief firming, prices drifted lower again as call money rose to 6 percent ahead of New York bond sales and a key cotton report. Wall Street Dull Day as Bonds Loom and Grains Report Near

Wall Street experienced a notably dull session as Jewish holiday absenteeism and anticipation of tomorrow's grain report weighed on trading. Investors eyed New York City 4 1/2 per cent bonds offering with bids of about 40 million dollars while call money rose to 4 percent to 6 percent. Copper fell in London and on the New York Metal Exchange, dragging the market as modest gains evaporated and bonds softened with total par value sales around 746 thousand dollars.
