The Boston Finance Commission moves to serve summonses on prominent politicians and city officials amid allegations of fraud in coal contracts. Willis Towne and Maurice Klaus are central figures as investigators probe missing agents, falsified bills of lading, and suspected misdealer activity. The Lucania began speed trials at 11 55 a m passing Daunt Rock Lightship with the Lusitania at 12 10 p m both under reduced speed. Fog later shut in again and at 9 tonight the Lusitania reported 180 miles west of Daunt Rock steaming slowly.
Halifax Nova Scotia reports a carriage accident last night near Bridgewater killing Mrs T Nutting of New York and seriously injuring four others. The injured include Mrs P A Moore with a broken wrist and broken ribs, Rhetta Moore age 2 with a broken hip, Annie Butler nurse with head and back injuries, and the carriage driver with bruises. The team ran away on a hill then hit an ox cart, tossing all from the conveyance. Mrs Nutting died at the scene and others were unconscious.
Newton opens 235 public schools tomorrow with Superintendent Spaulding predicting a five percent enrollment rise. Two new grammar schools are under construction at Nonantum and Newton Highlands, with a new technical school planned on the ex-Governor Claflin estate.

In Mansfield on September 8 a masked pair forced Mrs. Mary Kozitea to surrender 325 dollars to save her six year old daughter Katherine from harm. The robbers fled as police investigate, believing the assailants knew the family’s movements after her husband Louis Kozitea sold his shoe business.
Frisco health officials reported one new bubonic plague case and four additional suspected cases were isolated and kept under observation yesterday.
The board approved a temporary hospital camp at Ingleside and to move 750 inmates from the city and county hospital. Old condemned hospital buildings will likely be burned. The report notes bubonic plague first appeared May 27 aboard a Finnish sailor from the tug Wizard, with 18 total cases and nine recoveries.
