Boston Finance Commission vows no runs for office

The Boston Finance Commission pledged in a Tremont building statement that all members will not seek public office during the commission's life. The declaration quashes rumors of candidates including John A. Sullivan for mayor and ex Mayor Matthews for governor or mayor, and extends to counsel Michael Sughrue. Kennedy protested against reports of other members seeking office after a secret session.

Suspect Charged in Metuchen Craps Game Case

The accusation states that last Wednesday the suspect played craps with James A. Duane, a wealthy contractor, and two Black men for stakes from five to a hundred dollars per throw. Duane was arrested and both men were held by Recorder Charles Weber in five hundred dollars bail awaiting grand jury action. Dr. Freeman posted bond and Charles Hartman became Duane's surety. Enos Fouratt, Metuchen marshal, filed the complaint.

New Ideas Revise Foston Public School System Opening

Foston public schools reopen with a 2000 pupil increase to 98 000 and new practices. Emphasis shifts to writing spelling and geography while reducing frills. Nurses visit congested districts to supervise hygiene and home conditions. Grade 8 ½ to 8 receive gymnastic training and the High School of Practical Arts for Girls opens at Lyceum Hall with 1290 pupils under Headmaster Herbert Weaver assisted by Miss Hammond and Miss Starbird.
