Charleston reports a second quake with minor damage and widespread animal distress. Officials form a board to assess dangerous buildings while seamen fund relief and adaptive measures follow the tremor.
The Western Union Telegraph Company reports a quarterly net revenue of 905,831 with a 4,300,883 surplus after interest and sinking funds. They expect about 1,200,000 net for the next quarter with roughly 5,866,218 surplus. A farewell banquet honored Justin MCarthy before his departure for America with Mr. Parnell presiding. A fatal accident near the six arched bridge on the Boston and Lowell line occurred as Arthur Merchant a 16 year old returning from Canada leaped from the Montreal express and was instantly killed. His head was badly battered and the body sent to his parents in Little Canada.
