Burrano New York September 7 The first annual regatta under Jamestown citizens auspices at Long Point Lake Chautauqua featured single sculls with a 1.5 mile course. D J Murphy Boston Crescents won heat one, George F Cummings Crescents won heat two, J F Corbett Chicago Farraguts won heat three and then Cummings beat Murphy by six lengths as Corbett was ill. Cody and Jackson New York Atlantas won the pairoared race. Junior single sculls saw Alexander Somers Toronto Baysides win in 10 58.

N W Farwell prominent Lewiston Me citizen died in Lewiston aged 68. He worked with Waltham Bleachery and Great Falls Bleachery before leasing Lewiston Bleachery and later Great Falls Bleachery. He built Lawrence Bleachery with his son John W Farwell. He served as director of the Boston and Maine railway and was mayor of Lewiston and president of the Franklin Company. He also directed the Lewis ton Machine Company and the First National Bank of Lewiston and owned Farwell cotton mills at Lisbon. He leaves a widow and three children.

Six witnesses testified for the prosecution and the case was adjourned until tomorrow. Discrepancies in Leighton’s story noted. If sufficient evidence is found he may be bound over to the grand jury.
