New York September 6 District Attorney says he will not appeal Judge Churchill's ruling transferring the trial of ex commissioner Squire and Maurice B Flynn from General Sessions to the Court of Oyer and Terminer. The Court of Oyer and Terminer will not sit until November while General Sessions is in session. Newcombe for Squire and Flynn contemplates an appeal from the denial of a venue change. Recorder Smythe impaneled a new grand jury in General Sessions with Robert Maclay president and foreman, stressing the statute on corrupt practices by county officials.
New Beprero Sept 6 steam yacht Pamelia arrives from Nauushon for repairs. Commodore Forbes misses Puritan races and remains at Naushon. J G Chapman sloop Isabel from Westport. Ada of Providence repaired at Marblehead harbor trial, to sail home soon. Nimpey and Sparkle in port. Sparkle boasts never beaten by any craft of her size. Marblehead reports 175 yachts in harbor with large steam yachts Lady Ladoga and Anmie Pope among the fleet plus numerous schooners and sloops.
Greenfield Sept 6 An attempt to swindle Farmer Guellow of Bernardston occurred on the street when two men enticed him to their room He left to fetch money and returned with officers but the swindlers had fled The town is in an uproar over the incident.
New York September 6 The Commercial Bulletin estimates August fire losses at 13 million dollars, about 50 percent above the usual August average. Seventeen hundred fires caused 11.85 million in damage in the 10k to 100k range, with 30 fires in the apap totaling 7.8 million. Forest fires add 0.5 million in losses. Excluding them, August fires exceed the long term average by roughly 45 percent.
Report from London says Mr Parnell has reached terms with the government. He will withdraw the land bill clause on re valuation in exchange for government acceptance of the eviction suspension clause. Parliament is expected to adjourn on September 15.
