An attempt to wreck the New York sleeper on the Bennington Rutland road near Wallingford destroyed about sixty feet of the Childs bridge. The train was traveling about forty miles an hour and only the last car, an empty sleeper, was wrecked. No injuries, though a colored porter had a narrow escape. No clue to the saboteur. sheriff at work all day.
Mrs. Alice Leighton, a Boston widow living at 220 West Newton Street, committed suicide with a revolver in her parlor, leaving notes stating she was tired of life. She was found on the floor with the weapon beside her and planned to have reporters kept from the case. The Rev. George S. Pelton pastor of the Congregational Church at Higganum died in Hartford this morning from heart trouble. He was 49, Amherst College and Hartford Theological Seminary graduate, spent years in the West on mission work, once led a Worcester mission church, and had served Higganum about four years.
Frank Glass a 23 year old shoe maker of Marblehead resided on Tucker street fell from a raft while fishing for pond lilies in Loring's Meadow pond and drowned. The body has not been recovered. He had been employed as a shoemaker.
Great Barrington records state William Malony and Thomas Kelly were held in 750 dollars bail each for murder in the second degree this morning. Their examination is scheduled for Saturday.
John Bayers 50, a contractor at the Brown Durell building on Kingston street, was crushed when an elevator moved rapidly at work yesterday afternoon. He fell between the floor and door casing, sustained severe rib injuries, and is in critical condition at Emergency Hospital. He leaves a wife and six children.
At about 7 15 last evening a team driven by Jeremiah Donohoe collided with electric car 119 on Lynn and Boston railroad innisimmet street Chelsea. Donohoe with John Powers and Patrick Connelly were in a dogcart towing an ox wagon when near the corner ams and Winhisimmet streets the wheel struck the car causing the rig to overturn. Donohoe received a severe scalp wound and a broken rib, Powers escaped with a black eye while Connelly was taken to Frost Mall and then home at 209 Central Avenue.
The Commercial Cable Company bulletin reports that the Rian government has suspended all telegraphic communication to and from Brazil for the present. Messages for Brazil cannot be accepted until further notice. Telegrams for Uruguay Argentina and places beyond may be accepted as usual.
Joseph Mansfield 31 a hustler of North Attleboro fell thirty feet through a stable scuttle yesterday and sustained a spine fracture. He was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital.
