Harold Cooper 21 of 2 Decatur Street East Boston died at East Boston Relief Hospital after his hand was caught in a gear and drawn into a planing machine at Manson Lumber Company Border Street East Boston. Firemen freed him after his arm was drawn to the shoulder and ether was used. He died two hours after arrival.

An evening alarm near Pemberton Square Courthouse drew a quick citywide response as fire crews converged on the City Prison. The apparent blaze proved to be a car engine fire owned by James G. Barry of Dorchester whose vehicle backfired and scorched the wooden area around the engine.
