The Rev J A Derome addressed the American Reformation Society. A Cambridgeport man named Cheney who assaulted his wife appealed a six month prison sentence.
Candidate slate selected with young men to the front. The ticket includes Willim E. Ruvusseau of Cambridge for Governor, John W. Cor Coran of Clinton for Lieutenant Governor, William N Oscoop of Boston for Secretary of State, Samuren O. Lame of Greenfield for Attorney General, Henry C. Thacher of Yarmouth for Treasurer, William A. Williams of Worcester for Auditor, and electors Joan Boye O'Reilly of Boston and Groves M. Stearns of Chicopee.
Blaine addressed a Maine mass meeting in Reed's district as the largest crowd in ten years filled the old orchard grounds with 5,000 to 10,000 attendees. Speakers praised Harrison and Morton, Tariff reform, and England’s stance, while Amos L. Allen and Thomas B. Reed introduced Blaine amid veteran Banner support and spirited demonstrations.
A Democratic caucus in Phenix Hall previews the state convention with Charles F. Stone and Irving W. Drew among leaders. Congressman McKinney urges unity for Cleveland and a big Democratic victory, while party lines and a license plank dominate talks.

John Green identified Joseph Johnson as his thief last Tuesday. One Johnson faced trial in court and was sent to jail vans, while another Johnson was fined six dollars for drunkenness and released. The lighter Johnson paid the fine and disappeared, leaving the case to prove the other Johnson’s guilt.
George H. Douglas, lieutenant of the twenty fourth Kent Infantry, wrote to the World of Toronto arguing war aims against the United States and proposing Canada seize Detroit if war comes. The government asks for an explanation of his conduct and plans a severe reprimand.
At Saratoga Sept 56 the American Social Science Association discussed health. Notable papers explored medical education standards and the impact of legislation on health for workers, education in medicine, and sanitation conditions. Speakers included J. Holbrook Curtis and Elizabeth Browne Brown among others.
Ex Mayor John J. Donovan as permanent chairman addresses a mass convention praising Grover Cleveland and his administration. The speech lauds Cleveland’s record, tariff reform, and honesty, contrasts with Republican critics, and pledges Democratic unity with Allen G. Thurman for vice president. The speaker predicts victory for Cleveland and Thurman, with independent voters aligned to the ticket.
New York Sept 5 Lester Wallack the veteran actor and manager lies dangerously ill at his Stamford Connecticut summer home. A severe apoplexy struck him this morning with no sign of rallying. Dr Robert Weir was sent for and Theodore Moss accompanied him. Bellevue nurses are aiding. Tonight the latest report says he is not better and may not live till morning.
Blake Bros. & Co of 5 Nassau street in New York advertised the loss of three promissory notes each for 5000 dollars mailed in unregistered letters last Friday. One note is signed by A. J. Walker & Co of Chicago due December 14, the other two by G. F. Swift of Boston due December 12 and 17. The firm member suspects theft as letters did not reach Chicago. Post office search traced the letters to Litchfield Connecticut at the First National Bank there. A mail pouch from Albany to Chicago was also reported lost. officials expect eventual recovery.
At Columbus on the second Ohio centennial day representatives from Connecticut Massachusetts and Virginia were welcomed in the morning by General W H Gibson of Tiffin. Responses came from Governor Lounsbury and Lieutenant Governor Brackett. In the afternoon Frank Hurd welcomed Michigan Indiana Illinois and Wisconsin with a response by Senator T W Palmer of Michigan.
Colonel William F. Vilas, Secretary of the Interior, opened the Wisconsin Democratic campaign with a Westside Turn Hall address. About 1500 people attended, with the Juneau Jefferson and Jackson clubs leading escorts and the Ladies' Democratic Club on stage alongside state leaders from the Democratic State convention.
Ottawa report notes Professor Johnson editor of the British Lion of Hamilton sues Queen's Hotel Toronto for refusing him admission due to color. The deputy minister of justice provides substantial financial aid to support his test case and government aid is described as handsome.
The Democratic State convention in Milwaukee nominates Governor James Morgan, Lieutenant Governor Pacier Kull, Secretary of State A C Carson, State Treasurer Theodore Kersten, Railroad Commissioner W Herman Nabe, Insurance Commissioner E M Evans, Attorney General Timothy E Ryan, and Superintendent of Public Instruction Amos Squire. Denver convention nominates Cooper for Governor and Wilkes G. Smith for Lieutenant-Governor before adjourning.
