As schools start, Spitz Bros. & Ork promotes boys and children clothing with inspected stock and prices. They offer coatee suits, song pants, three piece knee pants and two piece jacket sets for ages 4 to 16, with many suits on sale from 5 to 14 dollars. All-wool fabrics, taped seams, double stitched construction, and ten lines of five dollar suits highlighted.
Uniformed employees including conductors brakemen steamboat officers policemen and messengers supply their wants at G W Simmons Co estimates requested for uniforms and equipment.

Havana reports a deadly cyclone Tuesday causing major damage across the island. The gun boat Lealtad foundered at Batabano with nine drowned, including the commander. Sagua records about fifty deaths and substantial damage to homes warehouses harbor vessels and wharves. Pueblo Nuevo near Sagua is described as wiped out. Telegraph lines are badly damaged.
Washington dispatch notes forecast for twenty four hours fair and slightly warmer in New England with shifting easterly winds. Eastern New York also fair and warmer, followed by rain in the southern portion Friday night, with easterly winds.
A Zanzibar dispatch reports a dhow under the French flag with French papers landed eighty slaves at Pemba in sight of boats from the British Griffin. The note claims a regular slave traffic operates between Pemba and Madagascar using dhows, which British cruisers cannot stop due to their flag.
The Farmington scene totals four thousand dollars in loss after a stable fire started by a lantern. White Bros. property in Francestown burns with eighty tons of hay and furniture. A four story block on Main street suffers about one thousand in damage. Dedham Germantown barn fire destroys property worth around three hundred. Dr Hollen’s Windsor home nearly destroyed. Jennings LA business district hit. depot damaged. Somerville reports an incipient blaze in a Bleachery outbuilding.
New York September six. Allen G Thurman faced a thunderous New York welcome but grew ill with cholera morbus. He spoke briefly then was carried from the Garden and taken to the Fifth Avenue Hotel where physicians expect him to recover by morning.
Thousands pack Madison Square Garden as Governor Hill, Green, Collins, and other Democratic leaders attend a rally. Flower presides, Thurman is greeted with applause, Brice Band entertains, and speakers critique tariffs and debts while urging tariff reform and continued policy aims.
In Bath Maine, Hon William L Putnam addresses a large Democratic rally at Alameda Opera House with Frank Foster of Massachusetts. He links shipping decline to the tariff, cites 1861 to 1886 trends, laments protectionist policy, defends the 1872 controversy, and rebuts Blaine’s claims while pledging party victory.
Chang Yen Hoon, the Chinese minister, will leave Lima on September 12 for the United States, changing plans to go directly to Washington to convey the emperor's wishes on the Pacific treaty. A Pekin notification reportedly confirms rejection of the treaty at the White House. In Shanghai, hopes linger for ratification of the immigration treaty with the United States, while crowds in Canton react angrily to the talks.
Private despatches from New Reptorp confirm the loss of multiple Arctic whaling ships off Point Barrow August 8. Vessels include Young Phenix, Fleetwing, Mary and Susan, Trio, and Jane Gray. Bear aided distress, rescued 110 crew, none reported killed. Insurance values listed for Young Phenix, Mary and Susan, Fleetwing. Fleetwing valuation not fully covered.
London Sept. 6 Sir Charles Tupper praised Joseph Chamberlain for fisheries treaty handling. He said Canada would not adopt any policy harming England and would treat the fisheries issue with due importance. Other dispatches note New York delayed by pump issue, Lesseps predicting Panama Canal progress, a cotton weighing strike, a Catholic congress resolution, Niger dispute note, and reports of a Northern Afghan revolt amid looming civil war.
