Indications from Wasmxetton on September 4 report twenty four hours of local rains in Maine with slight temperature changes followed by cooler conditions Wednesday night and westerly winds. Massachusetts Rhode Island and Connecticut should be fair after coast showers, cooler west, stationary east, wind turning to westerly. In Canton William E Simonds received 75 votes to 67 for John L Houston at the Republican convention in Hartford District One. Simonds to run for Congress representing Connecticut, with Houston as runner up.

Montreal Sept 4 Dominion cruiser Napoleon Third recalled to Quebec to serve in coal transport between Sydney Cape Breton and Quebec for fishery protection duties, a novel assignment for a battle ship and stirring discussion across circles here.
Malden September 4 In the District Court Daniel J Splane of Medford faced a complaint charging him with setting fire to the barn owned by J N Cowan & Co He was held in 500 bail for September 11.

Continued tallies expected to firm up the largest Republican governor’s majority since the war.
