John J. Joyce of Springfield defeated W. F. Conley of South Boston in a three mile single scull race at Lake Quinsigamond. The race was close for a mile before Joyce pulled away and won clearly.
Montreal Sept. 8 The grand jury has found a true bill against Charles A Pitcher a Providence Savings Bank teller for bringing stolen money into Canada.

Rallies run nightly as Republicans deploy orators led by Blaine to defend the old majority while Democrats enter the final week with renewed confidence. Reed reportedly fears overexposure from intensive canvassing.
New Haven Sept. 3 The Connecticut Democrats meet in state convention tomorrow with no prepared plans or delegate canvass. Ex Governor Ingersoll or Waller could win a unanimous vote but may not accept. Congressmen French and Seymour are favorably mentioned as potential nominees amidst widespread uncertainty.

In San Francisco on September 8, Sarah Althea Sharon and Judge Terry caused a ruckus in the State Supreme Court. Terry received six months in jail and Mrs. Terry thirty days after she insulted Judge Field and cursed a marshal who tried to eject her. Terry drew a dirk knife and a loaded bull-dog revolver was found in her satchel.
