Burglary Tale Debunked by Readville Resident Father of Commodore Denies Big Loot
Charles Van Brunt of Readville challenges Boston papers for exaggerating a Monday burglary at his home. He says the haul was about 300 dollars, not 4000, and no diamonds or grand jewelry were present. He notes misstatements about his lineage and the thieves using his clothing, which was largely old trousers, while Mrs. Van Brunt lost only a skirt.
