In a pitchers duel the Boston and Cleveland teams played to a 0-0 or late tying score through extra innings as Criger, O'Connor, and Stahl made key hits. A brilliant defensive play by Klobedanz and Lowe plus Yeager’s catches preserved the stalemate until darkness ended the game.
The final game of the season ended in a ten inning tie as Boston and Cleveland battled with errant fielding and shaky pitching. Lewis and Powell struggled in the box, Long and Bransfield contributed errors, while Burkett, Wallace, and Criger stood out for Cleveland and Lowe, Duffy, Stahl, and Yeager led Boston. Boston rallied with a three run homer by Yeager but could not seal the win.

New York bantam Casper Treon and Baltimore’s Jack Ward, after three prior clashes, are rematched for a twenty round contest at Greenwood A C Brooklyn on October 6. Treon has beaten Ward once, with the other two bouts ending in draws.
Boston boxer Mike Sears is matched to face English featherweight Jabez White for a $1000 purse and $259 expense allowance. A telegram to the Post says Sears will sail for England next Wednesday.
New York’s Matty Mathews will fight Tommy Tracy the Australian welterweight in a twenty round bout set for early November at the Olympic A C in San Francisco. The match is officially announced for the top feature event.
At the Pelican Athletic Club in Brooklyn on September 2 a twenty round bout pits Otto Sieloff against Billy Teller. Preliminaries feature Timmy Kearns versus Jack Fox in 135 pound ten rounds and bouts for Jock New and Ed Sullivan.
Emma Rybolt of Milford Ind suffered nervous prostration and weight loss in 1896. After trying Dr Williams Pink Pills for Pale People she recovered by mid May 1897 and gained strength. The endorsement by Mrs Rybolt accompanies a notary sworn statement on the pills’ curative claims.
