Grand Naval Pageant Opens Welcome for Massachusetts Fleet

Reception at Faneuil Hall Welcomes Returned Fleet Heroes

Sailors Welcome at Faneuil Hall Ceremony

A massed reception at Faneuil Hall honored U S Navy sailors led by Governor Wolcott and Captain Higginson. Massachusetts commanders, cadets, and marines crowded the hall as nine U S Navy vessels entered Boston harbor, prompting cheers, handshakes, and a civic tribute. The event continued with a post ceremony collation for officers and crew in the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company armory.

Mortars Tested at Winthrop Battery Exercise

U S mortar batteries at Winthrop conducted a field test near Graves. Colonel Woodruff and Major Crozier led a party to observe as sixteen 12 inch guns fired 1000 pound projectiles at an 18 foot canvas target six miles away. Officers praised the battery after the sequence.
