Washington Light Infantry Easter Fair Aids Widows and Orphans
The Washington Light Infantry of Charleston organized an Easter fair in 1875 to fund widows and orphans of 113 fallen comrades from three war companies. Boston contributed about $1500, helped by W. Frank Hall. Lands now total $15,000 with $900 yearly income, twenty one pensions of 40 each issued this year, and the charity remains on a sound foundation after nine years of use.
