A fire trapped passengers in a car during a crisis. Surviving travelers were unable to assist as flames engulfed the vehicle leaving several fatalities and a scene of shock and loss at the roadside. Investigators probe cause and response.
A Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul wreck near Mirwacrker Wisconsin left many passengers dead or burned as cars were engulfed. Conductor Searle recalls seventeen cremations and at least twenty fatalities with numerous injured including engineer Thomas Little and fireman James Eagan.
New York October 29 reports a heated exchange as Wilson Barrett and Charles Hudson dispute a Henry Irving cable. Irving denies Barrett's claims of friendship and offers to take Hudson back to the Lyceum while confirming another forged message.

Fire at William K. Lancey’s farm in Pyrrs Freep destroys the barn and about forty tons of pressed hay. The loss is uninsured and no injuries are reported.
Jersey City physician Charles B. Converse won $14000 against the Delaware Lackawanna and Western Railroad in the United States Circuit Court at Trenton for injuries from a collision at a road crossing last spring. His phaeton was wrecked and he narrowly escaped death.

Montpelier Vermont October 29. In the House the committee reported against Joseph Battell elected Representative from Ripton holding his seat because he was post master at the time of his election. They also reported a bill for a new election in case of vacancy by death resignation or disability. A railroad commission bill was introduced and hearing postponed until Tuesday. A bill to divide Orange county into two shires will be introduced early next week. Petitions seek charters to build railroads from Richford to East Fairfield and Marshfield to Hardwick with the Loston Lowell line tying to Canadian Pacific at Richford.
A morning collision on the Central Vermont line at Gassett's Station left three trains wrecked. No. 4 mixed freight and passenger train was rear-ended by an extra freight, then No. 6 freight train struck the rear of the extra on a bridge. All three trains were wrecked, track blocked, no serious injuries reported, and the line expected to be cleared tomorrow.
Providence reports a water logged dismasted white sloop rescued Bren ton's Reef lightship Tuesday morning and thought to be the Mary Adelaide of Bristol. Captain Nettleton his wife and one seaman aboard are missing and not heard from.
The Lawrence Licht Guard of Medford, Company F Fifth Regiment M V M held its annual target shoot. Winners included Lieutenant E F Mitchell for active members with a silver medal and top scores and Tusc dore P Dresser for fine members receiving opera glasses. Invited guests received half-dozen silver knives. Lieutenant Clark of the First Cavalry earned top marks among guests. A Town Hall dinner followed with remarks from military men and citizens, ending with a sociable.
A special committee of the fee of councils unanimously recommends indefinitely postponing the appointment of a two member committee to prepare articles of impeachment against Mayor Smith. William Knowles, injured in Thursday's elevator accident, remained unconscious last evening. Currier is progressing and will soon be able to set up.
