Waltham Apple Freight Wreck Delays Trains Eight Hours

Two men were injured but not severely in a Fitchburg railroad wreck near Roberts station. A freight train carrying apples bound for London and Western beef for Boston collided with an express on wet rails, wrecking the engine and cars. Fireman Muzzey was scratched, brakeman Singleton bruised, Hastings escaped unharmed. Eight hours of halted service, pecuniary damage estimated at 2500 to 3000 dollars.

Nathan Day a prominent New York merchant and wealthy banker died at 19 Park Avenue after a paralytic stroke last year and declining health. Born August 11 1822 he began in dry goods with Blanchard Converse then founded Nathan Day & Co later moving the business to Church Street in 1861.

Bust of Sherman Hoar Presented to Phillips Exeter Academy

A bronze bust of the late Sherman Hoar has been presented to Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter New Hampshire. Funded by the college classmates of Hoar, the bust was sculpted by Daniel C French of New York and cast in bronze. The trustees accepted the gift at their Boston meeting last Saturday and it will be unveiled once the pedestal is completed and placed in the chapel.
