Firemen Injured Responding to Church Street Alarm

Richard L. Ulvedal of 4 Henchman Street and Joseph F. Boutilier of chemical engine No. 2 were thrown to the pavement while answering a Church street fire alarm. Ulvedal sustained severe bruises and cuts including on the wrist and above the eye, Boutilier suffered bruises and a badly sprained ankle. Both were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Fire at 70 Shawmut Avenue Damages Four Story Brick House

An alarm from Box 61 at 10:45 last evening reported a fire on the second floor of a four story brick dwelling at 70 Shawmut Avenue. Owner is John Kill and occupant is Ernie Natino. Cause unknown. Damage valued at 60.

Orange Prince reports rescuing two mariners from a Marshall L

The British tank steamer Orange Prince bound for Dover from Marcus Hook reported aboard two shipwrecked seamen from the American schooner Marshall L. They were picked up Oct. 12 when the Orange Prince was two days out in latitude 40 north longitude 69 west. The search notes three American schooners with similar names: Marshall L Adams, Marshall O Wells, and Marshall Perrin. The rescue point lies about 40 miles southwest of Nantucket Shoals lightship, roughly 245 miles west by south of Sandy Hook.

Eastman arraigned in public on murder charge

Professor Charles R. Eastman faced a public arraignment in Superior Criminal Court for the murder of his brother in law Richard H. Grogan Jr. DA Wier resisted private hearing, case called at 4 30 pm amid a watching crowd, Eastman calm yet visibly nervous as the grand jury findings were read and he responded to the bar.

Not guilty of all charges in arraignment

The Boer professor pleaded not guilty to all charges and appeared well coached. After the plea the court ordered custody under the sheriff until further orders. It was noted the trial likely would not start before December, and perhaps later.
