William N. Mergroth, former Coney Island cabaret singer, testified as principal witness for the prosecution at the Ida M. Feener and Martha A. Bense trial. They are charged with conspiring to conceal diamonds valued at 7000 dollars and automobiles in bankruptcy proceedings.
Mergroth testified that Ida Feener "did him dirty" and harmed friends, claiming she and her sister faced bankruptcy and taxicab debts. He recalled arranging $700 to help her obtain jewelry from pawn while denying plans to open a gambling house. The Collateral Loan Co. showed four diamonds and earrings pawned by Feener totaling $725, still held by the lender.
